Trying to Grow Your Bangs Out By Danielle Molesky

Trying to Grow Your Bangs Out
By Danielle Molesky

Are you trying to grow your bangs out?

We understand that this can be a frustrating, and at sometimes daunting task, so here are a few tips to get through the growing out process:

-Try a fun braid or twist and pin it back with a clip.

-Next time you're out shopping take a look at those hair accessories you always "wish" you could pull off - this is the perfect time to try them out!

-Ask your stylist to slightly trim and clean up your bangs each time you go in for your cut. This way they will grow out nicely without the bulk.

Are you getting bored with growing your hair out?
By Danielle Molesky

If you are growing your hair out and are getting bored with it there are a few small things you can do without making any huge changes. Try changing your part, asking your stylist for a side swept bang, or ask her or him to even change it up with some layers.

Need Something Stronger Than a Home Remedy?

Need Something Stronger Than a Home Remedy?
By Jaimie Woehr

Thanks for the at home remedies, but what if i feel like i need something a little stronger?
The best thing to make your hair feel like new again is the Enjoy Instant Reconstructor. It's a lightweight deep conditioner you can use 1 to 2 times a week. It adds the moisture you need to repair your thirsty strands, and remember it protects your hair when your out in the sun. Use hair sunscreen or wear a hat, and when in the pool dampen your hair first and apply a leave in conditioner. Therefore, you hair is absorbing the conditioner rather than the harsh chemicals in your pool.

Choosing the Right Hair Color For You by Jaimie Woehr

Choosing the Right Hair Color for You
By Jaimie Woehr

Choosing the right hair color isn't as easy as picking a color you like.

It's important to consider your natural hair color, your skin tone and eye color when choosing a new hair color.

Pale
skin suits pretty much all hair colors.
Avoid shades of red or golden blonde if your skin is pink.
Stick to ash tones to neutralize your coloring.

Avoid yellow, gold or orange tones if your skin is yellow.
Stick to deep reds.

Olive
skin suits darker hair colors.

What type of clothing colors suit you best?
If you know this, it can help you choose the right hair color.

If you look good in red, orange, golden yellow, olive green or rust

You suit warm hair tones such as golden blonde, golden brown, strawberry blonde and auburn.

If you look good in bluish red, fuscia, black, royal blue or pine green

You suit cool hair tones such as platinum, ash blonde, ash brown, burgundy and jet black.

If you look good in red, purple, charcoal grey, periwinkle or teal

You suit neutral tones like sandy blonde, beige blonde, chocolate brown and mahogany.

Warm tones will bring out the pink in your skin, so if you've got redness to your skin, go for cool tones - champagne, sandy or ash blonde, or cool browns.

Warm gold
or reds suits olive-toned or ashy skin.

Red
is the hardest color to maintain. The shade will change almost from shampoo to shampoo so be prepared for the fade.Choose coppery-reds instead of blue reds for a more natural hair color.

Grow-out Guidelines by Cheryl Wright

Grow-out guidelines: pointers to make the process painfree!
By Cheryl Wright

1) Don't skip your haircut appointment
Trimming your hair while growing it out is a must. As your ends get dry and split, they will continue to split up your hair shaft. By getting tiny frequent trims you keep your hair healthy and strong.

2) Consider changing your color You may feel like you are waiting a lifetime for your hair to grow. Switch up your color to keep you from giving up the fight against time.

3) Change the shape of your style
A style that was cut to be worn at a shorter length can grow into something unruley. By collapsing heavy areas or adding some texture can make a world of difference.

4) Retrain your style techniques
Tools and products that were used to acheive your old look might need to be put in your cabinet. Try different products and techniques to shift into a new look.

5) Add some interest around your face Consider adding some bangs of face framing fringe to put the focus on your new detail instead of the fact that your hair is in transition.

Style Tip for Fall 2010 by Melissa Rossi

Style Tip for Fall 2010
By Melissa Rossi

Style tip for Fall 2010, is a little ambiguous, but great news for our fast paced lives. Hair styles should not be too straight or too curly. (not spiral, or perfect) Yeah, easy! If you flat iron, take bigger sections and if you are curling your hair, don't curl every single section. When curling your hair, loosen the curls with your fingers. Put your head upside down, shake it out with your fingers for instant volume, place it where you'd like, then hair spray and you are off running!

Has the summer been brutal on your hair? Some tips to help! By Melissa Rossi

Has the summer been brutal on your hair? Some tips to help!
By Melissa Rossi

The summer has been brutal on our hair. My clients have been in dire need of moisture. I've been recommending conditioning treatments in between color and haircut appointments. Coming back to the salon to get a deep penetrating conditioning treatment is nice because we can tailor the conditioning treatment towards our clients specific needs. Our treatment lines can be cock tailed to manage any type of damage. For instance, if you have chemically distressed dry hair, we can mix a protein and moisturizing solution to help both issues to restore the pH to a normal, healthy state. If you cannot afford to come back in between appointments I highly recommend, Hydracure by Pureology. It is a great new conditioning product that would be excellent for restoring moisture to color treated, fine hair.

The Retro Bob by Melissa Rossi

The Retro Bob
By Melissa Rossi

My clients have been asking me what fall styles will be this year, and after doing a little research online I found that bobs are holding strong. I think the appeal is that it's a timeless and easy hairstyle to maintain. Our lives are so fast paced, I can understand why. You have two options when going with the classic bob; layered with texture or blunt. These two styles seem to be the most popular among celebrities. What was really adorable in my opinion was the beautiful retro curled bob looks. They really remind me of Marilyn Monroe. Simply beautiful & classic! This look is soft and feminine.

Style Trends for Fall & Winter 2010/2011

Style Trends for Fall & Winter 2010/2011
By Alecia Brown

For this season hair styles are at their extreme!

Long hair becomes even longer, while short hair becomes super short. When it comes to hair color look for radical changes. When thinking about color go for something the complete opposite of your natural color. Remember, extreme hairstyles are in!

If you have long hair...
Go with very long naturally textured hair. Regardless of it being curly or straight. Put aside all your harmful styling tools. Try going for a middle part for a trendy, yet effortless look.

If your hair is super short...
Own it. This is the perfect look for fall & winter! This look is especially good on those with blond & curly hair. This type of hairstyle is very multilateral. Today you can be a strong business woman, tomorrow you can adopt a skittish look, and in the evening you can play the passionate woman. All the necessary tools for it are your imagination, creativity and self-confidence. Besides, this is hairstyle can always depict you in a favorable light, enhancing the beauty of your face.

If you have a bob... (or are thinking of getting one..)
Go with a short layered bob to be on top of trends this fall. If you don’t dare to cut your hair into a short bob, you can still be trendy wearing the longer version. Bobs are easy to style, are very practical and fit great for every face shape. They can be suitable for the office style or sexy and glamorous for a date.

When styling, go retro!
Retro hairstyles from the 1940s will continue as an inspiration for womens hairstyles in this fall & winter. Wavy hairstyle is suitable for all hair colors, but is less impressive on black hair.

Some professional tips for a beautiful, rich, retro hairstyle:
* Waves should be firm but not curly
* Wear it with an off-center or side part
* It must fall below the shoulders
* Combine with classic make-up and styling

Weekly Beauty Tips from Danielle

Weekly Beauty Tips
From Danielle Molesky

Before Your Color Service
(Redken hair cleansing cream)

The days are gone of coming to the salon with dirty hair before a color service. We now prefer clean hair. We have had better results when working on clean hair because the color is able to penetrate the hair shaft more easily. We suggest using Redken Hair Cleansing Cream when washing your hair the morning of your color service. This will ensure brighter, shinier, and longer lasting color!

During Service
(Shine Gloss Treatments $15.00)

Looking for a way to brighten up dull ends? try adding a shine gloss treatment to your next salon service. The Shine Gloss not only adds shine, but also conditions the hair and seals the cuticle! It's only a 15 minute service, so you're in and out!

At Home Care

When leaving the salon after a service, it is now up to you to help maintain your hair. You can do this by using products and at home treatments to lengthen your color and style. The texture and condition of your hair will help determine what products are best for you. If your hair is colored, you should always use "color safe" products. Ask your Dolly to help you decide which products work well for your hair!

Daily Beauty Tip from Dolly Melissa

Daily Beauty Tip
By Melissa Rossi

Question: I don't have the time with my busy lifestyle to put the effort in to my hair that I'd like to, so I just end up throwing it up in a pony tail or putting a hat on. Any suggestions?

Melissa's Answer: Yesterday one of my clients came in with an outgrown shorter haircut, and she had not styled it after getting it wet. It looked great. She placed some pieces where she wanted them and smoothed out her bangs. My point is, sometimes less is more, if you have a busy life and time is limited experiment with volumizing in specific areas. Using your fingers to pull and shake out your hair while blow drying, and piece it out at the end. It may turn out even better than when you do more!

Daily Beauty Tip from Dolly Alecia

Daily Beauty Tip
By Alecia

Question: I feel like I take pretty good care of my hair. I have purchased all the products suggested by my stylist, I limit my use with styling tools, and on top of coming every 6 weeks, I stay out of the sun & chlorine but it seems that my color still seems to fade. Any suggestions?

Alecia's Answer: For longer lasting color have your stylist do a Pre Art treatment by Redken. This is an in salon service that will create a clear canvas for your stylist to work on. Pre Art Treatment will enable you to have brighter longer lasting color.

If you don't have time before your color service to get this treatment then prep your hair at home with with Redken's Hair Cleansing Cream. This is a clarifying shampoo that purifies the hair of any mineral deposit and product build-up, while adding moisture and shine.

Call today to book your Pre Art Treatment with Alecia or one of our other Dollies!
The Treatment is $15, and takes just about 15 minutes.

Daily Beauty Tip from Dolly Mindee

Daily Beauty Tip
By Mindee Bahr

Dollyrockers now carries OPI nail polishes!

Question: How can I prevent my pretty new polish from chipping off my nails?

Mindee's Answer: Make sure to use a nail buffer to rid your nails of any cracks and smooth out ridges. Use pure acetone and a cotton ball to remove any traces of old polish, dirt and oils. Apply a thin base coat to prevent staining of your natural nails. Apply two coats of prefferred OPI shade. Next apply a clear top coat; I like Seche Vite Dry Fast top coat. Apply a thin layer of clear top coat once a day everyday for long lasting nail color!

Daily Beauty Tip from Dolly Laura

Daily Beauty Tip
By Laura Caldarazzo

Question: I've heard that when I brush my hair I'm supposed to do so with 100 strokes a day. Is this a fact or a myth?

Laura's Answer: You should brush your hair only when you style it. The average person loses 50 to 120 strands of hair per day. Brushing your hair more often can cause the hair to weaken therefore pulling it out of your hair follicles. A person with high stress might notice that they lose more hair. After pregnancy you may notice a greater loss also. On the brighter side, each strand you lose will grow back!

Daily Beauty Tip from Dolly Cheryl

Daily Beauty Tip
By Cheryl Wright

This summer don't fall victim to the plain Jane ponytail. Here's a few ways to glam up the way you put your hair up:

1) Try a sleek side swept look:
Start with strong side part and secure hair to the opposite side at the nape. Use a pomade to smooth down flyaways.

2) Add some quick detail around your face:
Braids and twists in the bang area are hot this summer or try a center part with soft waves framing your face. Finish your look with a low ponytail.

3) For effortless drama add an accessory:
Pair your ponytail with a simple or elaborate headband. Stick a flower, broach or bow to the side of your pony.

4) Options for long hair:
Swing your ponytail to the side and braid the length. Take big section of hair and use a large curling iron to give your pony texture.

Daily Beauty Tip from Dolly Jessica

Daily Beauty Tip
By Jessica Hejna

Question: With all of this dry weather I feel like my hair is loosing its shine. Any suggestions?

Jessica's Answer: A great way to get added shine to your hair is to give your hair a super cold shot of water after rinsing out your conditioner. The cold water tightens and closes the cuticle on your hair strands, leaving them with a great natural shine. Follow with Enjoy Shine & Smooth before blow drying.
